Literary
Connections with Hawkshead Village
One
of the things that makes Hawkshead famous is its many literary
connections.
Not only
was the poet William Wordsworth educated here, but Beatrix
Potter - who married a local resident - also lived nearby,
at Hill Top, Near Sawrey.
There
are many references to the village in Beatrix Potter's work,
perhaps most notably the character Johnny Town-mouse who was
based on the village doctor, Dr. Parsons, a good friend of
the children's author's husband.
