Literary Connections with Hawkshead Village

Beatrix Potter at Hill TopOne of the things that makes Hawkshead famous is its many literary connections.

Not only was the poet William Wordsworth educated here, but Beatrix Potter - who married a local resident - also lived nearby, at Hill Top, Near Sawrey.

There are many references to the village in Beatrix Potter's work, perhaps most notably the character Johnny Town-mouse who was based on the village doctor, Dr. Parsons, a good friend of the children's author's husband.
